Payments in applications and online
Wherever you find the Google Pay button on the internet, you will simply pay without entering the number of your card. You just need to be signed in to your Google account, and:
- Click on the Google Pay button
- Choose the card
- Confirm the payment by a ČSOB Smart Key or SMS key with ePIN (3D Secure protection)
How to activate Google Pay
What you need:
- Mobile phone with Android 9.0 and higher (without a root) which supports NFC payments, or smartwatch with operating system Wear OS 2.15 and higher
- For mobile payments you can use any payment card from ČSOB or Postal Savings Bank (Poštovní spořitelna), either debit or credit. Card number, validity and 3-digit code you also find in our ČSOB Smart app and use them for digitisation of your card.
- ČSOB Smart Key app is required to confirm the digitisation of a card
- Digitising your card is easier with the ČSOB Smart app - select a specific card in the Cards section and use the Settings tab to send it to Google Pay.
Activation via the Google Wallet application
- In the Google Wallet application (formerly Google Pay, download free from Google Play), click on “+ Add to Wallet”
- Take a picture of your credit card, or enter the card details manually
- Choose “Sign in to the bank app” and confirm the request in CSOB Smart Key app.
- Finished, you will receive the confirmation of activation by SMS or e-mail
Activation via the ČSOB Smart
First, download the ČSOB Smart. You have all your payment cards in one place. In addition, there are many other features in this app.
- Go to ČSOB Smart, section Cards and choose appropriate card
- Click the Settings tab and choose Google Pay button
- Google Pay will pop-up and everything will be done by itself
- Done, you will receive confirmation of activation via SMS or e-mail

Which models support Google Pay?
- Google Pay is supported by mobiles with the NFC technology with Android 9.0 and newer, which were not subject to rooting.

What is an NFC chip?
NFC (Near-Field Communication) is technology that enables quick short-range data exchange. Thanks to the NFC chip, we can make contactless payments by mobile.
Is this service safe?
When you pay in shops, your payment card is encrypted by a special code, so the vendor cannot recognize your personal data. In contrast to a payment card, the mobile is protected by the screen lock, so only you will pay with it.
Where can I find a list of payments made with Google Pay?
- You will find all (both plastic and digital) card payments in Google Pay in the internet banking, or in ČSOB Smart, and in your account statement.
- In the Google Pay application you will see the last ten transactions with the selected card in the relevant device.
Can I pay with Google Pay abroad?
Yes.
Do I have to be online to make a payment?
No, you do not need the internet to pay. But if you want to display transactions, or to digitalize a card, or to remove a digital card, you need to connect.
Is this service free?
Google Pay is free. The fees for contactless payments and ATM cash withdrawals are the same as the fees for plastic card payments.
Can I add more cards to my phone?
- Yes, you can add more cards to Google Pay.
- You can digitalize one physical/plastic card repeatedly and to various devices. At one moment you can have up to 10 digital cards to one plastic card.
Change of the default card
The first payment card added to the Google Pay service will be set as the default card for shopping in shops. You can change it as follows:
- In the Google Pay application, on the right at the bottom, click on the Card option.
- Click on the payment method you want to set as the default one.
- Switch on the “Make default” option for payments in shops.
What limit is set on a digital card in the mobile?
The limit for payments with vendors is the same as the limit for your plastic card.
Can I continue using plastic cards when I suspend or remove them in Google Pay?
What should I do if I lose my phone?

- You can lock a device with the Android operating system remotely by signing on to your Google account after clicking on: www.google.com/android/devicemanager
Is there any protection against misuse?
To make a payment from your phone, you must unlock it. The application will not allow you to use Google Pay if the screen lock is not set. With smartwatch you must unlock the app first before payment.
Where can I use the Google Pay service?
- You will pay in shops – with the Google Pay service you can pay in all shops with contactless terminals, which are almost all shops in the Czech Republic and many shops abroad.
- You will withdraw cash from contactless ATMs – ČSOB itself has more than 650 contactless ATMs in the Czech Republic – find the closest one in the map.
- You can pay in applications and on the internet – you will pay via Google Pay wherever the service logo is displayed in the payment gateway.
Can I pay by smartwatch with Google Pay?
From August 2021 Google Pay is supported in smartwatches in the Czech Republic. Selected smartwatch must have operating system Wear OS 2.15 and higher
What happens if the payment card expires?
- If the plastic card expires, all its digital copies will be blocked automatically.
- If the bank automatically issues a new payment card to you, the digital cards will automatically reactivate once the plastic card is activated (activation must be done before the expiration date of older card).
- If major change of the card occurred (e.g. change from Visa to Mastercard and vice-versa, or from Gold to Standard card), you must add the new card to the mobile again.
What should I do if my phone is not responding to a payment terminal?
If different app is set as default payment app, you have to change the default payment app. When you start Google Pay, you'll see a notification that the app is not the default app to pay. Use the "Change to Default" button to set Google Pay as your primary NFC payment app.
Is it necessary to allow internet payments on the card?
Yes, if you want to use Google Pay to pay in e-shops.
Internet payment can be set-up easily in Internet Banking (menu Cards) or in ČSOB Smart.
Potential problem with the card while adding to Google Pay
- Invalid or inactive card
- Card does not have Google Pay support
- Card will soon expire
